Senior Radiation Oncologist

He was the first Oncologist in AP to bring computerized treatment planning system in early 80s for accurate delivery of radiation to the cancer patients. Dr.Babaiah was the first Radiation oncologist in South India, who started innovative and revolutionary cancer treatment technologies like IMRT, IGRT, SRT and SRS and made them available for the cancer patients in AP.

Dr. M. Babaiah did MBBS from Kurnool Medical College in 1975. He did MD in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi in 1981. After completion of his MD, he worked at AIIMS as a registrar for 3 years. Later he had trainings at Royal Marsden Hospital, London and Booth Memorial Medical Center, New York.

After coming back to India, he pursued practice of Radiation Oncology as Director, Medwin Cancer Center in early 80s. Later he was Director, Yashoda cancer Institute for 10 years from 2002. Dr. Babaiah as Medical Director is instrumental in developing American Oncology Institute, at Hyderabad along with Cancer Treatment Services International, Pittsburgh in 2012 in close collaboration with UPMC. Now American Oncology Institute has grown into 12 branches in India. He was the first Oncologist in AP to bring computerized treatment planning system in early 80s for accurate delivery of radiation to the cancer patients. Dr.Babaiah was the first Radiation oncologist in South India, who started innovative and revolutionary cancer treatment technologies like IMRT, IGRT, SRT and SRS and made them available for the cancer patients in AP. His never ending desire for superior technology made it possible to procure first RAPID ARC treatment technology at Hyderabad in a corporate setup for the first time in India.

Dr. Babaiah published several papers both in national and international scientific journals. He was the first to start the Diplomat in National Board (DNB) training in Radiation Oncology program in AP. He has trained several post graduate students to his credit who are practicing Oncologists Telangana and several parts of India. He was also the Professor of Oncology at Deccan Medical College, where he taught medical students for 15 years. He was also the editorial board member of JOURNAL of CANCER RESEARCH and THERAPUTICS (JCRT).

Dr. Babaiah received Nargis Dutt Foundation award in 1992, Vaidyashiromani award in 1997, Pioneering in Oncology award in 2009 and Rayalseema Ratna award in 2011 and Ugadi Vishista Puraskaram award from Govt. of Andhra Pradesh in 2012.
